ABOUT THE PEOPLE OF…
An exploration into the thoughts / experiences and hopes of local communities. Over time we will gather
stories from people who share public spaces as newly formed mini communities are created.
Starting with Blighty India Cafe, this story will give us all insight into the people that we are in close
contact with every day but maybe never get that moment to connect.
Chapter one: BLIGHTY INDIA CAFE TOTTENHAM
THE BLIGHTY INDIA CAFE is the first in this series of cultural explorations.
Talking to customers, staff and business owners often seen there,
visual storyteller, Agenda, creates a collection of portraits to be displayed in the café.
As a regular there himself, he enjoys the creativity, friendliness and inviting
energy that exists between all that use the space and thought it a story worth sharing.
The portraits remain on permanent display in the café since August 2018.
This is the start of a countrywide creation.
Introducing: THE PEOPLE OF… BLIGHTY INDIA CAFE
"I need to connect to the place I live"
I first came to Blighty the beginning of 2018. The thing that drew me to the space was the great sense of community (from young mums with babies to older locals having a break over a cup of coffee) Tottenham hold lots of interest for me, I like the markets that surround us (from the Colombian to the Farmers market)
I have always had a need to connect to the place that I live. I like the snake handing above the counter. My favourite place in the world is yet to be discovered.COVAS ONLINE PROFILE...

"The elephant is my favourite, just because"
London is my favourite place in the world, the level of creativity here is very special. different people, cultures, languages, food, ways of thinking all here on my doorstep… Chris (Founder of Blighty) and I both played football against each other at school we were coached by my father who used to be player/manager of national teams in India so Blighty India feels very much like home for me.BLIGHTY'S ONLINE PROFILE...
"I love the parks in Tottenham"
I first came to Blighty in February 2018 and I instantly enjoyed the atmosphere. I am a big fan of the sad elephants at the cafe. I love the parks in Tottenham, especially Lordship park and Downhills park. I am yet to find my favourite place in the world as I have not experienced everywhere yet.LAURAS ONLINE PROFILE...
"Thank you for bringing me here mum"
Thank you mum for bringing me here. I love the milk and toast that all the staff give me here. The animals and staff here always keep me company while you catch up with your friends.
"A great informal
I first came in April 2018. I liked the atmosphere of the space - the informal vibe and co-working space. I am yet to fully explore Tottenham but I like The Beehive Pub for FIFA World Cup matches. My favourite place is Prague - the city where I come from. I think we all have that special bond to the place we were born and raised in.LUKAS'S ONLINE PROFILE...
"I was drawn by the Ghandi neon lights"
I visited Blighty when it first opened. I was drawn by the Ghandi Neon lights and it looked like such a fun and funky venue. I love the raw and stripped down interior. The Tiger is the animal for me! he's found perched on his usual chair next to the window watching the world go by. I love the diversity. I've lived here for 12 years and it's evolving in to a community which has a wide range of activities for everyone. My favourite place in the world is wherever my family are.Zara's online profile...
"Its like being back home with all of my animal friends"
Hanging out in Blighty is just like being at home with all of my animal friends that I made over the years. My new human friends are not too bad either. Come by and say hi sometime, we don't bite.

AGENDA of Visual Marvelry is a winner of the Canon photography award for his portrait work. A former graphic designer who is driven by the desire to encapsulate authenticity in a chosen moment, whilst dissolving anything that gets in the way of connecting with a great image. Cross fertilisation and collaborating with people to create something amazing is a key feature of his approach.
He currently runs VISUAL MARVELRY™ The home of powerful stories, fuelled by Creative / visual direction and photography.
JAN is an experienced freelance Graphic Designer/Art Director and owns Jan Lewis Creative. A genuine eastender from Plaistow, she lived in Walthamstow for 20 years before moving to Barking. “I love London and it’s patchwork of diverse neighbourhoods”. She recently turned eco-warrior and is on a mission to save the planet, one brand at a time.
I turned my kitchen hobby into a career when an opportunity to roast coffee at Blighty came up a number of years ago. I quickly realised that I find it deeply satisfying about making a good coffee for someone else to enjoy and that a simple ‘hello, how are you?’ to a stranger can open up a very personal conversation over the bar. The café allows me to do things that I love, look after, meet and connect people and I love that the café has the power to bring people together in a way that I feel is missed in our fast paced, screen based lives now.
