A CELEBRATION OF LASTING CHANGE IN HARINGEY
Inspired by Black History Month 2019, Haringey Council are saluting black CHANGEMAKERS of the borough. This series of photographic portraits brings together CHANGEMAKERS from different generations.
It is a visual record of those influential in culture, education, sport and community activism in the UK.
Black history influences us all year round – too vast to be contained in just one month a year (what do we do with these amazing stories for the other 11 months?)
Our CHANGEMAKERS are the new black history makers of today, making history every day.
Being asked to create this series was a very proud moment for me (thank you Elena Pipou). I instantly knew that the images should be simple and give a sense of connection when viewed.
Discovering that we would be shooting at the very special Bruce Castle Museum, with special permission from Deborah Hedgecock, and that the images will become part of their permanent archive, was a huge bonus, and made the energy surrounding the series even more special, along with the fact that I have known some of the Heroes for many years.
The Heroes were asked to bring to the photography sessions an item that is important to them. My aim was to show the connection between the person and the objects they chose.
